As the most innovative market leader in the field of drive technology, SEW Eurodrive were looking for a new facility to service the increasing demands of its customers, and it was essential that the new assembly facility had blanket radiant heat coverage. The Nor-Ray-Vac system was designed to give blanket coverage of heat, to ensure an even comfort level could be maintained for personnel working anywhere on the production floor.

The brand new building required the most efficient radiant heating system in order to reduce running costs.  The facility required blanket radiant heat coverage with the capability of being specifically zoned to the production process layout. Reznor’s Nor-Ray-Vac system was the perfect solution and was installed, consisting of 27 burners providing blanket heat coverage but designed in four zones, to the clients brief, with just three discharge points on the gable end wall.

The Nor-Ray-Vac radiant tube heating system offers many benefits.  It warms up rapidly yet does not waste energy heating the volume of air in the building.  Employees in the workshop feel warm, and comfortable temperatures are maintained with warmth being evenly distributed but relatively little fuel is consumed, ensuring the system remains economical.

Suspended from the roof, the Nor-Ray-Vac heaters emit infra-red rays that warm only objects and people in their path, ensuring even heat coverage throughout the building with rapid warm up time and low noise operation.

The workshop area, which is now over 7500 sq m, holds stock over £2.5m worth of components ready for assembly, 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.  All product is assembled on modern state of the art assembly cells which have replaced the production lines of the old facility, which means that process times are optimised and efficiencies are maximised to ensure a minimum of downtime and waste.

The new self cooling, naturally ventilated workshop and offices boast automatic sensor controlled lighting, roof mounted 50k/VA photo voltaic cells to help provide electricity, and solar panels to help with hot water as well as an air source heat pump for under floor heating.  All of these elements, along with the Nor-Ray-Vac continuous radiant heating system, help to make the new assembly plant building a truly modern and eco-friendly environment both inside and out.

The Nor-Ray-Vac radiant heating system provides rapid response to changed conditions and does not have to heat the volume of the building.  It has an efficiency of 92% and qualifies for the Energy Technology List.
